Introduction to Cleansing
Cleansing of the
internal organs is a powerful tool on the road to vibrant health and
vitality of the body as well as the mind, emotions and spirit. Along with
finding the appropriate nutritional intake to revitalise and energise you
as an individual, cleansing should be part of any holistic approach to
healing, regardless of the therapy form you choose.
The old saying: ‘Death Begins in the Colon’ is not far from the truth. The
colon is the main eliminator of toxic waste in your body and a healthy
colon is essential for your physical health as much as for your inner
brightness and vitality.
In my practice, I see an increasing number of patients with bowel and
digestive related complaints. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diverticulitis,
Colitis, Bloatedness and Flatulence and Constipation (i.e. opening the
bowel less frequently than once a day for a good, healthy bowel movement)
are all common complaints, along with other symptoms commonly caused by a
build-up of toxins in the body, such as: Fatigue, Irritability, Lack of
Concentration, Forgetfulness, Depression, Insomnia, Headaches, Migraines
and Arthritis, to mention some. The list is endless, all mostly due to an
inappropriate nutritional intake of food and drinks but also unresolved
emotions and other lifestyle issues. The good news is that all this is
often easily remedied with simple adjustments in your daily routine and
your approach to your life, along with balancing the energy system and
using natural ways to cleanse the colon and other internal organs, such as
the Liver, the Kidneys and the Spleen of accumulated toxins. All these
organs play their specific role in removing unwanted waste materials
within your system as well as also distributing the clean, healthy energy
and blood to the appropriate parts of your body. Because the colon is
where the bulk of your waste is collected and eliminated, I generally
recommend starting the process of internal cleansing by cleansing the
colon before moving onto the other organs. Cleansing the colon will more
often than not, in itself set off a wider process of cleansing within your
system. This can be likened to emptying your compost bin or household
waste bin regularly to allow for a cleaner home environment.

The key in any healing process is always to determine the individual
person’s cause of the presenting problems and this is where an experienced
holistic practitioner will be invaluable. It is in my opinion essential
that any practitioner of holistic medicine also works on their own issues
in order to be pure instruments for healing. This is something I continue
to do in my own life and in my search for vibrant health I recently found and completed a
four-week herbal intestinal cleanse.
The Article.
The four-week Ejuva internal cleanse is highly
effective yet gentle on the body and a 100% natural. I must say it is
without a doubt one of the most beneficial single steps I have taken on my
journey towards vibrant health and enlightenment of my Body - mind -
spirit. I felt exceedingly well throughout the whole cleansing process,
apart from the odd attack of low blood sugar when I failed to follow the
recommended instructions, and the best way to describe how I feel since
completing the cleanse is Nourished, Revitalised and Cleaner inside. I
have had a lot more energy as well as vitality and zest for life.
Mentally, I feel peaceful and emotionally, I have been more in control and
able to respond to my surroundings with greater love, acceptance and
understanding.

To explain a bit about
my background, I have been involved with Complementary Health for more
than a decade and have an individual and a holistic approach to my work as
well as to my life. I have also always felt that in order to help others
on their path, I first have to help and work on myself and so, as one of
my clients put it recently, ‘I walk my talk’.
The decision to do
the Ejuva cleanse came after years of other physical, mental, emotional
and spiritual inner work, which included making my way towards a
life-giving nutritional intake of food, as opposed to what used to make me
ill or less than healthy without being fanatically rigid in any way. All I
am doing in effect is listening to my body and doing what makes me feel
good.
Having read
extensively on the subject of cleansing, I was aware of the terminology
‘Mucoid Plaque’ – an expression used amongst experienced cleansers to
describe hardened mucus combined with old physical, mental and emotional
toxins stored in the digestive tract, and eliminated through an effective
deep cleanse. When I decided to do the cleanse, I realised that I probably
would have stored up a fair amount of toxic matter from my earlier
thirty-or-so years of what I now personally consider unhealthy eating, but
I never expected reams and reams of Mucoid Plaque to be eliminated from
what I thought was my reasonably healthy digestive system.

The Mucoid Plaque –
very descriptive name for it by the way – was just like the pictures in
the books; hard and rubbery, squiggly and stringy and in colours varying
from green or grey and beige to dark brown or indeed at times black and
shiny. I had great fun examining it!
And, listen to this:
It has been at least fifteen years since I drank my last cup of coffee.
Nevertheless, at the onset of my second week of the cleanse (so still in
the mild phase) what came out of me had a strong, distinct smell of coffee
for two days. This has to mean that already early on in the cleansing
process I was getting rid of FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD STUFF!
Even though I spared
them the gory details, when my partner and my thirteen-year-old son saw
the effects the cleansing had on me, they also decided to do it for
themselves. My son did a modified version to fit in with his teenage busy
schedule of sports activities and schoolwork but he has still got rid of a
lot, and has found it beneficial to his health and vitality. My partner,
however, who can at times be a bit of a sceptic, found the cleanse so
beneficial to his health and well being that he decided to extend it for
an extra week. All three of us are excited about doing another cleanse
this spring.

I decided to do my
first cleanse in the autumn, which is the peak time for letting go –
outside in nature as well as within our bodies. In autumn, our colon has
the most energy and works the most efficiently. That is not to say that
one cannot cleanse at any time of year, although I probably wouldn’t
recommend anyone to cleanse during the winter, which is naturally a time
for rest. Autumn or spring is best in my opinion.
When I was looking
for a cleansing programme I undertook a lot of research into what is
available on the market and I also spoke to many colleagues and experts in
the field, in order to find a product that measured up to my astringent
criteria of purity and quality as well as using a holistic approach. Ejuva
was the only programme I could find, which matched my expectations.
Ejuva uses organically
grown, raw, life-giving herbs and ingredients from what the producer feels
happy to say are safe, uncontaminated sources. To me, the herbs felt as if
they were providing me with the nourishment that I needed. They were
gentle on my body and at the same time very effective in eliminating
accumulated waste and toxins.
The Probiotic powder
in the Ejuva kit contains a balanced formula of the various Bifidobacteria
as well as Lacto Acidophilus, specially chosen for human absorption and
has been developed specifically to nourish and re-balance the entire
gastro-intestinal tract.

The ‘Vibram’ oil
included in the kit as a skin elixir to assist emotional cleansing and
elimination of heavy metals from the body is no less than exquisite. The
oil is made up of Himalayan Rose and various vibrational flower essences
and both smells and feels luxurious and wonderful. A real treat both for
the cleanser and the people around them.
I made my own juice
during the cleanse, using fresh fruit, vegetables and cereal grasses,
which I feel is a vital part of the programme. Freshly made juice contains
necessary nutrients such as vitamins and enzymes but also vital energy,
which help, prevent depletion. I would say that when doing this cleanse it
is essential to have access to a fruit and vegetable juicer.
I also found using
pure water enemas from time to time very helpful both during and after the
cleanse although these are an optional part of the cleanse.
Unlike some other
cleansing programmes on the market, Ejuva uses a blend of Psyllium husk,
Linseed and Slippery Elm powder as a highly effective and all-natural
foodstuff stimulant and carrier, to aid the toxins released by the herbs,
out of the body.

Some cleansing
programmes I came across during my search not only sterilise their
ingredients (which in my experience make them a lot less effective) but
also use some unnecessarily harsh and astringent herbs as well as using
Bentonite clay as a carrier. Having discovered for myself the benefits of
eating raw food, I did not wish to use herbs which had been sterilised and
although some experienced cleansers swear by Bentonite clay, I personally
did not feel happy about putting it into my body, both because of its very
drying effect on the digestive tract and also because of its high
aluminium content. As for the use of heavily astringent herbs, my
experience is that a healing process is usually more effective if it uses
a gentle approach.
For anyone wanting
more information on cleansing or anyone interested in their own healing
and development process, I would highly recommend Richard Anderson’s
‘Cleanse and Purify Thyself’ books one and two. The books give a lot of
very interesting information and I cannot help but admiring Richard
Anderson for his honest and sincere dedication to his work and to the
subject of cleansing, (although I wouldn’t
personally use Richard Anderson’s own cleanse for some of the reasons
mentioned above).
